About the Artist

Bill Ward is a long time resident of Pinellas County, Florida and a married father of two daughters. He has always enjoyed sailing and enjoyed the ocean. With his wife Jill, they based their lives around the water and developed an appreciation for the majesty of the seas and the coastal waters that surround us. During those times when heavy weather would show its power over the seas one came to appreciate the safety offered by those Coastal Beacons that dotted our shore lines. Thus started a life long passion for lighthouses that evolved into the desire to recreate them with paint. In his paintings the artist tries to offer accurate depictions of these lighthouses beloved by all. He and Jill travel to as many of these lighthouses as possible, others are painted from pictures offered by friends who encountered them in their travels. Yet others are painted from researched photos. Please enjoy these paintings as much as much as Bill enjoys painting them. LIFE IS LIKE SAILING – YOU CAN HAVE AN IDEA WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, BUT NO IDEA WHERE YOU CAME FROM UNTIL YOU LOOK AT YOUR WAKE.

Protecting, Preserving & Restoring Our Lighthouses

Lighthouses played a critical role in Florida’s history; making it possible to explore, settle and develop Florida by using its 1,350 miles of coastline. Only 30 lighthouses remain today. A 2002 study done by the state of Florida estimates that it will take almost $20 million dollars to preserve these Coastal Beacons.

The Florida Lighthouse Association’s (FLA) mission is to safe guard Florida’s remaining lighthouses for future generations by supporting community based restoration, preservation and education efforts.

Please consider joining the Florida Lighthouse Association (FLA).
